What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from September 2024. ERO found outcomes improving for the majority of students, who gain NCEA at Levels 1, 2 and 3, and NCEA results for Māori students rising and holding over time. It noted collaborative leadership, good use of achievement information to set individual targets, a curriculum grounded in local contexts and mātauranga Māori, calm classrooms built on positive relationships with students and whānau, and the school’s learning support unit, Te Pūtahitanga. However, very few students gained University Entrance, fewer than half of Years 7 to 10 students were at expected levels in reading, writing and mathematics, though most made accelerated progress, and fewer than half attended regularly.

The agreed next steps are to lift attendance to the Ministry of Education target, keep accelerating achievement in Years 7 to 10 and help more students reach University Entrance, and set ambitious goals with planning that is regularly monitored and reported to the board.
