History

The Onerahi Library opened on 14 November 1973. Its establishment was supported by a bequest from Thomas Joseph Griffin, who left funds upon his death in 1959 for library extensions; the legacy became available after his wife’s death in 1971. Land was purchased in 1971 and a tender accepted in 1972 for a modest building. An additional small building was relocated behind the library in 2007.
