About the Site
The reserve runs along the edge of Parua Bay on the road out to Whangarei Heads, facing the inner harbour. It’s a genuinely scenic spot — the grassy flat is wide enough to space vans comfortably, and picnic tables dotted around the reserve make it a pleasant place to eat while watching the harbour. A boat ramp provides water access for those towing vessels.
This is a WDC-designated freedom camping area: self-contained vehicles only, park only in the designated spaces indicated by signage, and take your rubbish with you — there are no bins on site. Drinking water and toilets are available around the clock.
