What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from March 2024. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here how well teaching lifts students’ progress and achievement, while also supporting their wellbeing, language, culture and identity and their connection to the school’s special character and local history.
ERO pointed to a long-held commitment to academic success for every student, specialist staff for students with additional needs, teachers who use achievement data to plan their programmes, a collaborative staff with high expectations, and ongoing professional learning.
Next, the school plans to build teachers’ skill in culturally responsive teaching so that all ākonga can succeed, and to help all staff teach literacy and numeracy well to improve the quality of students’ learning.

Enrolling
As a state-integrated Catholic school, Pompallier gives preference to families with a connection to the Catholic faith, and preference applications need a certificate from the local parish. A limited number of non-preference places are also available.
Families applying for these accept that their child will attend a school of special character and take part in its programme, and attendance dues set by the Proprietor apply and are compulsory.
Applications are made in the year before the student starts and are accepted only with all documents included. The school publishes its enrolment closing date and interview times on its enrolment page each year, and late applicants may be placed on a waiting list.
