The reserve combines open grassy areas with mature trees and a short walking track that leads to the waterfall and nearby water holes. The pathway combines sealed concrete, gravel and a few short sections of stairs, making it accessible for most visitors.
The falls are fed by the Raumanga Stream. Water flow varies with rainfall, and the water holes near the path attract swimmers in summer. The Raumanga Shared Path begins in the reserve at the bridge over the Raumanga Stream and runs approximately 3 kilometres to the Whangārei Central Library on Rust Avenue, offering an easy walking and cycling route into the city centre that takes about 45 minutes on foot.
The playground, built and opened at the end of 2024, includes equipment suitable for a range of ages and abilities, a basketball half-court, an accessible seesaw and nearby shade structures and picnic tables.
